The move chess missed for 1500 years

Now each player has the right to skip one move per chess game at will.

A revolutionary twist to the world's oldest game — a quantum leap from the board to life.

The piece

Meet the Pass Piece™

A new official chess figure that represents one — and only one — skipped move per game. Place it on any empty square to pass. After your opponent responds, you remove it from the board.

One per player

Black has one, white has one. Used or unused, it stays decisive.

Cannot pass in check

You must answer a check with a legal move — the pass is not an escape hatch.

No pass after pass

If your opponent just passed, you must move. The board never stalls.

Why ChessWithPass is better

Classic chess
  • A 1500-year-old ruleset frozen in the 15th century.
  • Every position forces a move, even when waiting is correct.
  • Opening theory dictates the first 15 moves.
ChessWithPass™
  • All the depth of classical chess.
  • Plus one strategic right: skip one move when waiting is strongest.
  • Theory gets rewritten. Initiative becomes a real resource.
Pass notation

A passed move is written as two dashes or the word "pass". Both forms are official.
